With everything that I read in regards to poker strategy, I think that some of the stuff is messing my game up. So I wrote down a list of some of the thoughts I’m having that could potentially be ruining my bankroll. And for my own reasons, I also chose to say why I think the thoughts are hurting my bankroll.

1. I think they’re bluffing.
The majority of poker players play their hand as it is and only bluff when good opportunities appear. Bluffing is one of the various over-pitched plays in poker. With that information being shared, calling bluffs with a second rate hand is a common and pricey move that’s definitely hurting my stack.

2. I hope I break even… again.
No one likes to lose. But if you’re trying to endure a losing session just to get back to even when it’s obvious things aren’t going your way, don’t make things worse by waiting around. Try again another day.

3. I’m already this far into the hand, what’s a few more dollars?
Don’t be in denial when a call is wrong as I often am. When it’s wrong, it is simply wrong. If you are 98% certain that your hand is beat, it doesn’t matter how much cash you have in the pot because you need to fold. I find this to especially be true when I play Limit poker.

4. Strategy says to be aggressive.
Oftentimes, I make huge raises and add fuel to the fire when I also make huge bets to make myself feel like I’m being aggressive. There is a fine line between playing aggressive and playing stupid. I’m learning that the ideal way is to slowly and get aggressive as you learn more about the game.

5. Maybe I will do better after moving up a limit.
It’s as simple as this: If you’re not beating the limit you’re at now, why waste time by moving up to better competition?
