I know that Seven Card Stud isn’t as popular as it was a decade ago, but people are definitely still playing it. There are actually a lot of people still playing it in WSOP events. Since Seven Card Stud isn’t totally dead, we should check out some tips to become a decent seven card stud player.

Keep in Mind Everyone’s Face Up CardsSomething that is definitely different in Seven Card Stud compared to Texas Hold’em is being able to see a face up card from all the opponents (Although if an opponent folds, their face up card gets mucked and you’re made to remember it). A lot of the time players will only focus on their own hand instead of keeping in mind everyone’s face up cards. If you’re only thinking about your own card, you’ll be missing out on chances to count your outs correctly. That is why it’s important to remember every face up card by memorizing them.

You’ll be Betting Frequently
Since Stud is a drawing game, you’ll notice players trying to see cards as cheaply as they can. That is the reason why you need to bet frequently when you’re holding the advantage. If you’re leading the way, you don’t want to let too many drawing hands into the pot because you’ll lose the advantage. You should be making opponents pay to chase their draws at the least.

Bluffing won’t Work HereI know that bluffing is always assumed to be a huge part of any poker game. But by bluffing in Seven Card Stud, you’ll end up wasting a lot of time and of course chips. It is truer in lower stakes where the other players will end up calling with every draw or they’ll play all of their hands straightforward. Not many opportunities arise where you can bluff in Stud, which makes it unlikely that you’ll make anyone fold. That being the case, the best time to bluff in Seven Card Stud is when a flush draw is showing on the board.
