Hellmuth on Dancing with the Stars – Hurting or helping Online Poker

As is usual with Phil Hellmuth, he couldn’t resist the chance to grab more attention and headlines (including this one) with a recent Twitter post exclaiming that he might be on “Dancing with the Stars.” Sounding giddy as a 13 year-old girl, Hellmuth sent out the following Twitter post, “OMG! Phil Hellmuth (me!) on ‘Dancing with the Stars!’ Outrageous! Might make a fool of myself on worldwide television one more time.”

From the sound of things, it looks like Hellmuth will definitely be on Dancing with the Stars, and I haven’t decided whether this is good or bad for online poker. The good would be that Hellmuth’s appearance on the show could could attract a general audience that normally wouldn’t find their way to internet poker. And an influx of brand new poker players would mean major profits to all of the experienced players.

The bad I see coming out of this is that Hellmuth has no dancing experience, and he doesn’t exactly look like a natural either. If Hellmuth goes on Dancing with the Stars and completely embarrasses himself, I fear he would make online poker look uncool to all of the potential fish watching the show.

Sure I know this is a lot of insight into something that hasn’t already been confirmed; however, they are legitimate concerns that I have. Of course, any appearance on Dancing with the Stars could be deemed a good thing since Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s horrendous performance doesn’t seem to have affected the “Jersey Shore” ratings.

In any case, I’ll be watching a few episodes of Dancing with the Stars this season just to see Hellmuth make a fool out of himself.
